Sidewalk Shaving

I like this:

Sidewalk Shaving

Walk or ride
Down South Main Street 
visible obstructions,
even to the blind.

East side sidewalk,
some sharp edges
not so very kind
tripping hazards.

Small provisions
stumble, shuffle,
How to repair this;
What might be designed?

Residents wonder
committee discussions 
What could fix this?
More poles and signs?

No, the answer
is quite simply:
Well placed,
strategic grinds.

Flag men flagging, 

traffic, one-laned,

weather delays

and time;

Worked to find them,

and to grind them,

machines whirred

and whined;

'til guilty edges

brought to justice,

gave up,

redefined.

Now we walk there
or we roll there
now
what do we find?

Smooth edges
exposed aggregate,
no more ugly
jutted lines.

A small detail
not unnoticed,
quite appreciated
so fine. 

Now we go there
taking notice
an alternative
to other modes.

Transporting
ourselves forward
parrallel roads
ease within our minds.

So thank your rep,
say you noticed
an attempt at prose 
and rhyme.

And take a visit 
to South Main Street,
see the sidewalk,
freshly shaved, divine!
